Tyre replacement is often necessary when tread is worn, the tyre structure is damaged or a puncture is unsuitable for repair. A mobile appointment may provide an alternative to driving on a tyre that is no longer roadworthy.
When replacement may be needed
A bulge in the sidewall, exposed cords, extensive cuts, severe impact damage or a tyre driven while deflated can mean it should not be repaired. Worn tread also needs attention: UK law requires at least 1.6 mm tread in the relevant area for cars and light vans. These are not the only factors determining whether a tyre is safe.
Check the full specification
Tyres should meet the approved size, load index, speed rating and vehicle compatibility. Some models require specialist tyres or different sizes on front and rear axles. A photo of the sidewall may be useful when a coordinator contacts you.
What to ask in the quotation
- Tyre manufacturer, model and exact specification
- Supply and fitting charge and any call-out or travel charges
- Balancing, valve or TPMS work where appropriate
- Old tyre disposal and any additional applicable costs
Safer next steps
If a tyre is completely flat or damaged, avoid driving until it has been professionally assessed. Booked attendance depends on safe access, suitable equipment and confirmed product availability.
